Quick Chicken Tikka Masala recipe. The recipe is good but my family did not like the intense cinnamon and turmeric flavors.
Mushroom Tikka Masala - Vegan/vegetarian dish. Mushroom tikka masala is served at Indian buffet restaurants. Easy mushroom tikka masala recipe.
I was asked not to cook this recipe again. I agree with other reviews that there was too much tomato flavor. Next time I will use a smaller can of tomatoes, and perhaps either add some additional yogurt. It was a quick, tasty flavorful dish though, so I will definitely try again with that adjustment. This comes together very nicely and is pretty close to our favorite restaurant version - in about a half hour - Impressive.
I love that I have some heat control (we like the heat) with the cayenne. Thank you epicurious! I agree with a couple of other reviewers, particularly Angela from TX. It's a bit too tomato- y and would reduce that next time.
I also took someone's advice and added some additional cumin and coriander. Bringing leftovers to a friend's house for dinner so I see how if would be for guests. Does anyone have a great recipe for onion chutney?
After two trips to India and an exchange student from Maharashtra, we love the food (as long as it's not TOO spicy), so this headline was a grabber for me. I've read that Tika Masala is considered the prototypical dish of the UK, so I'm not too sure of its authenticity, but I wanted to try it anyway - - and it was a hit! I'm now enjoying the leftovers, and will definitely make this again, and again, and again... This recipe has great flavor for the time spent on it. I thought the tomato flavor too strong for a true tikka masala, so I added about 3/4 of a cup of heavy whipping cream with some more garam masala. It made too much sauce that way, so next time I'll leave out some of the tomato but keep the cream. I also prefer boneless skinless chicken thighs to breasts.
Brown rice mixed with cilantro is a quick and easy accompaniment. I was happily surprised by the amount of flavor this quick version created. I had a fresh jar of garam masala and used it liberally, but generally, I followed the recipe.
One major difference was I allowed the tomato sauce to simmer for much longer before adding the chicken, adding some broth to keep it from scorching, to mellow it. I also used half dark meat, because it handles the simmering process without drying out. It's important to taste as you go so you can decide when the raw onion and tomato edge has dissipated. I served it with the Saffron Spiced Rice on this site. A delicious meal, even if the time invested was three times the amount cited. This one is going in the rotation. So delish, the spices are the hit.
Quick? Like another reviewer here commented (Petra) there was nothing quick about this 2. By the time I was finished washing, slicing, cutting and cooking everything I was in about 3 hours.. I doubled this recipe.. It came out very good looking just like the photo at the top.. Some people here commented that the recipe was bland so I added a 3/4 teaspoon of both cumin and coriander powder to the sauce..
Nothing bland about this .. It was on the spicy side.. Not marinading the chicken in yogurt didn't make much of a difference.. I used chicken tenders..
When are they ever tough or chewy anyway.. My partner and I both thought this was delicious, and he's a huge fan of Indian food so that means something. The only change I made was of necessity: I had no plain yogurt on hand so used sour cream.
The seasonings were perfect and it was indeed (fairly) quick to make. Delicious. I made two alterations: used skinless boneless chicken thighs because they were on hand, and simmered the sauce longer than called for. The longer simmering reduced some of the tomato sweetness and the thighs added some extra flavor. Leftovers were even better. So good! I was skeptical about the peas, but they're actually really good in this!
Chicken had off flavor maybe from turmeric. Have used other recipe in Epicurious from April 2. In that one you marinate the chicken with spices and yogurt 4- 6 hrs then broil, making sauce separately and adding chicken at end. The yogurt marinade makes the difference.
It even freezes well as it makes plenty for 2 dinners for 2. A bit more acidic than the classic but really great for the time. Quick weeknight recipe. Easy and delicious. I'm usually too lazy to review recipes, but decided to take the time for this one.
Ok, so maybe it's bland exactly as written, but if you think so, ADD MORE SPICE! Mexican Stew more. The garam masala wasn't enough for me so I added good quality curry powder, at least 1/4 cup. This recipe is so much easier than previous tikka recipes that I have made. It is a winner in speed and ease of preparation as well as flavor. Make this! I used this recipe as a guide . I had Tikka Masala spice in a jar already from Savory Spices and needed to use it.
I did add the specified cayenne and next time I'll use maybe 1/2 tsp. I did not do the food processor part. I used a white sweet onion. I took 3 Tbsp t. m. Tbsp water + 3 Tbsp olive and mixed together.
I then added this to the chicken before cooking. Pulled out the chicken when done and in the same pan sauteed the onions then added the garlic. Followed thru with the rest of the recipe except next time I'd rather use an 8 or 1. IMO; it smelled delicious before this part. I used asparagus since it was on sale and as such, I had to boil it for 8- 1.
Served with basmati rice, chopped cilantro and garlic bread. Lemon and yogurt is a must. I'm a big fan of Indian food, and this recipe was easy and delicious!
Great flavors, modified the recipe for a half chicken (cooked it first in the tomatoes). I thought this was a great recipe, and a good way to enjoy the flavours of tikka masala on a weeknight. I followed the recipe exactly, only letting it simmer a while to make some naan bread, before adding the peas and yogurt.. I was surprised with the comments about how bland it was.. I might suggest evaluating the quality and freshness of your spices perhaps.
Indian takie- outie. Loved this recipe. Must say it was better than any restaurant I have ever had it in. I did leave it simmer longer than suggested in this quick recipe but kept mostly to suggested ingredients. I really enjoyed this recipe and would definitely make it again. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Indian food but I followed the recipe exactly and let the dish cool and sit over night in the refrigerator, to let the spices blend into the meat.
The next day I gently reheated it then added the S& P, yogurt and lemon juice served it up with some Spinach Paneer and rice, it was great! Definitely use this one again!
